Photographing a Fabulous Wedding at Cliveden House Hotel

The iconic Cliveden House Hotel is an extraordinary setting for a luxury wedding. As you approach along it’s long, grand driveway, the sense of opulence and history becomes immediately apparent.

It was a bright, sunny morning, and the bridesmaids were getting ready in the elegant Lady Astor Suite. The mood was lighthearted and relaxed, with laughter filling the room. Champagne glasses were in hand as everyone prepped, rollers in their hair. Family members came and went, delivering gifts and well wishes to Sharon. With its cosy sofas, the spacious suite offered the perfect space for Sharon and her bridesmaids to chat, laugh, and enjoy the anticipation before makeup began. As a Cliveden Wedding Photographer, I always appreciate the scale of the Lady Astor Suite because it gives everyone enough space, and I can get around the room without causing people to feel uncomfortable about being photographed.

As the ceremony time approached, the scene shifted to the stunning Cockerel Pavilion, where the wedding was set to take place outdoors. Just as the guests began gathering, the weather took a dramatic turn. A wild wind stirred, adding to the sense of excitement. Sharon looked radiant as she made her way down the aisle, beaming at her guests. Despite the gusts, Cliveden’s staff expertly managed the situation, assisting with the wind. And then, the rain came—intense and horizontal. In an effortless display of service, Cliveden staff quickly appeared with large umbrellas, shielding the guests and ensuring the ceremony carried on smoothly. Unpredictable weather is a challenge I’m always ready for, and Cliveden's exceptional service made it easy to continue capturing special moments.

With the rain pouring down, we shifted the group photos indoors—a blessing, as Cliveden offers numerous stunning spots filled with natural light. This allowed us to capture beautiful moments without anyone having to endure the storm. A venue like this provides endless opportunities for creative, elegant shots, something every Luxury Wedding Photographer strives for.

I recalled a beautiful archway near the spa entrance, so I led the wedding party there, with umbrellas in hand, to make use of the sheltered area. The archway allowed us to incorporate a touch of the outdoors without the rain, and it provided a fun, relaxed atmosphere for more group photos. The weather added a sense of adventure to the day. Wedding photography can be a challenge when the weather is against you, but it’s never impossible. I enjoy working out how to solve problems and getting the best photos.

By early evening, the rain had cleared, and I seized the opportunity to capture Sharon and Lee down by The Fountain of Love. The lighting was perfect, and their spirits were high. Though I only had about five minutes before the Wedding Breakfast, the pressure made for a swift and successful shoot. The couple then returned to the elegant French dining room to enjoy their delicious meal, a perfect end to a wonderful day.
